Back to Torbay

Sometimes the simple pleasures are the best. Relaxing on the sand, building sand castles, rock pooling and playing in the sea. Torbay has 20 beaches set along 22 miles of magnificent coastal scenery. All the beaches are designated as safe for bathing but do take care when using inflatables and dinghies and watch out for warning flags.

TORQUAY
Babbacombe Beach
Another lovely, small and sheltered beach with a combination of sand and shingle. Also popular for fishing from a small breakwater. There is a family pub right on the beach. Access to the beach is moderately steep and can be reached from the Babbacombe Downs Road; there is some parking at the beach.
Corbyn Head
One of the smaller beaches, this is further along the coast past Torre Abbey Sands and is a sand/shingle beach. Access is easy and it tends to be less crowded during peak summer months.
Livermead Beach
Sand/shingle beach with easy access. Beach has a café and private beach huts. Popular with water skiers and other water sports enthusiasts.
Meadfoot Beach
A fairly large, extremely picturesque beach with a mix of pebble and sand. Low tide also reveals rocky areas ideal for rock-pooling. The beach has toilets, a café and beach shop with a terrace overlooking the beach. Beach huts are available for hire as well as deck chairs/loungers.
Oddicombe Beach
Famed for its Cliff Railway, which runs during the summer season making access to the beach very easy indeed! The beach is sand and shingle and excellent for families. The facilities are extensive with a café, beach shop, toilets, baby changing, first aid point and telephone. The beach can easily be reached from Babbacombe Downs Road and is a short walk away from shops in Babbacombe and St Marychurch.
Torre Abbey Sands
Torquay’s biggest and most popular beach. A long expanse of sand with shallow waters ideal for families, especially those with young children. Access to the beach is easy, it is close to Torquay’s harbour and town centre and flanked by cafes, bars, shops and ice cream vans! Parking is ample, either along the road or in the Fleet Walk car park of Shedden Hill Car Park; both just a few minutes walk from the beach. Toilets, telephone and first aid point are all within immediate reach. Popular with windsurfers – tuition available.
PAIGNTON
Hollicombe Beach
Lovely, unspoiled sandy beach with moderate to easy access. Shallow water and toilets close by.
Preston Sands
Another lovely sandy beach, fairly busy during the summer months. Preston offers a café, beach shop, toilets and limited parking.
Paignton Sands
Paignton’s busiest beach! Long sandy beach also with some rock pools, very popular throughout the summer season. A great family fun beach. Great facilities: restaurant, cafes, take-aways, beach shops, and toilets. Also close to pier attractions and to Paignton town centre.
Goodrington Sands
Spacious sandy beach with great facilities situated away from the town. The Beach is divided into South and North Sands; the South Sands is close to all the amenities and entertainments on offer in Goodrington Park including Quay West Waterpark. Another ideal family beach with safe waters and good facilities.
Broadsands Beach
Long sandy beach with good facilities, another popular family choice. Parking is ample and close to the beach. Facilities include: beach shop, café, toilets, first aid post, telephone, hire of deck chairs/loungers and beach huts.
BRIXHAM
Churston Cove
A small sand and shingle beach on the outskirts of Brixham. Quiet, due to its secluded location.
Fishcombe Cove
Close to Churston Cove, this is again a quiet sand and shingle beach. Facilities are better and include: some parking, toilets, a café and hire of deck chairs and loungers.
Breakwater Beach
A large pebble/shingle beach close to Brixham town centre.
